About us : People deal with people

I am Chris Linforth (B.A.Hons Higher Dip Gdn Design). Prime Garden Design is my company where I am chief designer and contract manager. If you choose to utilise the services of Prime Garden Design, you will be dealing directly with me. I will visit you for a free, no obligation consultation about your project, and if you choose to go ahead, I will be the one who designs your project, sources your plants and manages the landscaping contractors. I do have staff to assist me with surveying and administration but your job will always be designed and managed directly by me.

Why is this so important? I go to some pains to explain this, as it is not always the case, some companies employ junior designers who are allocated certain jobs, we are not one of these. To be a great designer and project manager takes experience and know how! A designer at the early stages of their career can bring with them plenty of learning from the classroom but they cannot bring the experience associated with years of on the job designing and landscaping.

I have over 20 years of hands on experience in the construction of gardens and driveways. I have always enjoyed designing and building things and combined this with my love of nature and the outdoors to forge a successful career in landscaping.

Over a decade ago I decided to strengthen my design skills by gaining formal qualifications at Reaseheath Agricultural College. The indepth course looked at all aspects of landscape design including the history of garden design, surveying(a skill in itself), design principles,  horticulture and drafting techniques. I'm pleased to say that I passed the course with flying colours and became a fully qualified garden designer. I have been combining the theory learnt with my years of landscaping experience, ever since.

Following 20 years of constructing countless gardens and driveway projects, I decided to hang up my spade and concentrate on designing and managing landscape projects. Trading as; Prime Garden Design, I utilise all of my experience and skills in the design of gardens and drives. I also source plants and trees for clients and manage the process of having their gardens and drives built. I create stunning and imaginative designs, whilst reducing problems, hassle and costs for clients.

Prime Garden Design solving technical issues on site Chris thrives on technical challenges.

All landscape and driveway contractors, that I have worked with over the years, love my drawings and working with me! A bold statement, and one, maybe some other garden designers, would struggle to make. Due to the years I have spent constructing gardens and driveways of every type, I ensure that my designs are 100% buildable. I imagine how a feature is actually going to be constructed while I am drawing it, meaning that there are no nasty surprises waiting for the contractor. I then convey this information on a series of 2 and 3 dimensional CAD drawings, including all relevant information and specifications required to build it. Nothing is left to chance or guess work and contractors like this. They also like being able to ring me at any time and discuss any site specific issues that they may have.

Clients like this too, as they don't get any nasty shocks with the cost or timescales of a project, as everything generally goes to plan. Of course there are occasionally problems encountered on site, and I am always the first on hand to search out and implement a solution.
